Vegan "Crab Cakes" at Charlie Was A Sinner.

Vegan “Crab Cakes” at Charlie Was A Sinner.

The Rock and Roll Vegetarian headed out to Charlie Was a Sinner, the renownd Philadelphia vegan restaurant and bar, for some happy hour drinks and to try their “Maryland Style Crab Cakes”.

Charlie Was a Sinner has created a dynamite little dish!  Two small slider sized cakes on a brioche roll, with a tangy remoulade and lettuce, and a side of potato chips.  Everything was super fresh – Charlie’s makes everything on the plate, including the bun and chips.   The chips had a slight hint of “Old Bay”, which we were told was actually a homemade salt blend.   The cakes were moist, but sat on a crisp roll.  Conclusion?  A  really nice dish at a very cool restaurant!!

Oh, the drinks?  Charlie’s is a perfect spot for a creative cocktail – a nice elegant feeling bar and some pretty unique drinks!  The “Palma Fizz” was very quenching, with loads of ginger.  The rye wiskey cocktail “Carrol Gardens” was a bit reflective of a little Italy type of feel, with a bit of Amaro in the mix.  I could have had a few more, but these did the trick.  They are pretty potent.
