Review: Quorn Turk’y Roast for Dinner Tonight?

It has been a little while since we have giving the Quorn brand “meatless and soyfree” a place on the plate.  It was time.  And the “Turk’y Roast” was the perfect opportunity, fitting in with the season and all you know…

We picked this up at our local heath food spot, brought it home, paired it with a mix of both white and sweet potatoes, sauteed collards with ginger, and red quinoa.  Topped it all with a bit of vegetarian gravy….  Yes, this was looking good:

The Quorn Turk’y Roast cooks inside its wrapper, in the oven for 30 minutes.  Inside a baking dish.  It seems a little plastic like, sitting there in your oven wrapped up like that, but we followed the directions, and hoped for the best!  As it cooked, strangely the outside packaging browned the roast, giving it a bit of nice “meaty” color.  So I guess that’s what that bag is about, huh?

We sliced it thin, and gave it a taste.  Actually pretty darn tasty!!  It has a great texture (that probably is great in sandwiches too).   A nice color, especially with the browning on the outside.  It cut into nice slices too.  It is also, in my opinion, not too salty.  These type of packaged meat substitutes can tend to be a bit salty, so this was a bonus.  Watch out though, this roast is a bit dry…..although since we served it with mushroom gravy this was not a problem for us.  If you are already familiar with Quorn products, the flavor here is definitely  ‘in the family”.

I don’t give stars really…..but I do say this was pretty darn good.
