Catching up with Vegan Chef Lenka Zivkovic at The Plough and Stars – Meatless Monday

Philadelphia has great vegan chefs. One of the hardest working among them is Chef Lenka, both a fantastic creative chef, plus a big advocate for animal welfare, spreading the word about vegan cooking – a true inspiration. Last year the Plough and the Stars started hosting some vegan food events, and we went to one of the first, a prix-fix vegan meal prepared by The Plough’s own chef, Lenka Zivkovic.  After I wrote about the fantastic food here on my blog, Lenka got in touch with me and even showed me how to make cashew creamer!  During that time she has become even both more passionate about helping…

Philly's Khyber Pass is very good food for us Vegetarian/Vegans.

Philly’s Khyber Pass is very good food for us Vegetarian/Vegans.

I don’t know why it took us so long to finally go and eat at Kyber Pass. Possibly it was because I think I performed there MANY years ago, and it wasn’t a good gig? Which of course wasn’t their fault – we had no fans in Philly at all! But so many people have told me that this is their favorite spot for good vegan food in all of Philadelphia. So finally we went – and it was really very very good! The Khyber Pass has a lot of vegan choices. They have vegan chili, and a few other…

Dinner at Vedge Restaurant with Some Friends.

Dinner at Vedge Restaurant with Some Friends.

I had dinner last night at Vedge.  By now I’ve been there several times, but for some reason it was especially nice last night.  One day I am going to do a proper review for this restaurant – but not today. Today I’m just giving a look into this great spot, Philadelphia’s most nationally respected vegan restaurant. Just off the bar we entered a small dining area.  Vedge has a few different dining areas, and this one was just a few tables and a gas fireplace pushing out some welcome heat on a cold night. We ordered 7 dishes for the…

The Vegan Tree on South Street in Philadelphia

The Vegan Tree on South Street in Philadelphia

We stopped in for a quick lunch at the Vegan Tree, the go to spot for vegans on South Street. Perfect for a quick bite if down around South Street, this is a very tasty mostly Asian vegan spot. It has a small but welcoming interior to sit down for a fresh cooked meal and perhaps a fresh juice as well. The juices are made here from 100% good healthy ingredients which means none of the ice often added. That’s a tip off for the integrity of Vegan Tree and the food. We went for the lunch specials, which were under…

Chef Lenka Zivkovic's Vegan Tasting Menu at The Plough & The Stars

Chef Lenka Zivkovic’s Vegan Tasting Menu at The Plough & The Stars

One thing is very clear when talking with chef Lenka Zivkovic about her plant based menu at Philadelphia’s The Plough & Stars – there is a tremendous amount of passion and heart in her creations!    Her food is not only delicious and beautiful, but she also places a lot of focus on the healthful and pure. While vegan food is considered to be better for you, the Rock and Roll Vegetarian has found that even at some of the best restaurants the focus on taste doesn’t always extend to healthy preparation.  Chef  Zivkovic goes beyond simple taste and sprouts her…
