My trip to the 2014 Philadelphia Veg Fest

My trip to the 2014 Philadelphia Veg Fest

Earlier this summer I took a trip down to the Philadelphia Veg Fest 2012, at Headhouse Square.  It was a beautiful day, and perhaps that helped with the turnout, because it was packed.  Sometimes I think that Philadelphia is a bit lacking in its Vegetarian and Vegan options.  Looking at the festival this view was challenged.  Maybe it’s just that a bunch of the restaurants I like to go to that are near me just don’t cater to us vegetarians and vegans, and therefore don’t have a lot of choices on the menu.  Is that why there are so many vegan and vegetarian places popping up?  There were a nice number of participants, including some of the areas best Vegan or Vegan Friendly restaurants:  Soy Cafe, Hip City Veg, The Vegan Commisary, Harvest Cafe, Sip and Glo Juicery,  and Miss Rachel’s Pantry.

The festival was filled with some great food, but also a lot of information about veganism was there, and also a lot of companies catering to the needs and wishes of the vegan community, such as puplishers of vegan literature, protectors of the sea (Sea Shepard Philly), supplements, perfumes, and imitation leather goods.  There really was a lot there.

I had a seitan cheese steak from The Vegan Comissary and looked lustfully at the cookbook put out by Vedge Restaurant.  If you haven’t been to these places, go now – just go!

One day soon I’m going to review Vedge….and it will be very glowing.  That place is truly special.

I made a video to show you what it was all about….
